ENTRY 5: SUBCULTURES

 Webtoons

The Smartphone has helped some subcultures to be born and give us more entertainment, “Webtoon” is a digital platform where you can read (it is like a comic but is digital and contains music in some of the stories). Since this is an app that you can use on your phone it makes it easier for them to use this. In South Korea it is pretty common to find people reading this in subways, streets, taxis, etc. They tend to like anime or animation things. This platform can give you any kind of genre you want to read since it is an open space where any creator can post their work (it contains pictures, dialogs, animation, etc-just to clarify that is not like reading a normal book-). Some of these "webtoons" have been adapted to K-dramas.

K-POP

Another quite marked subculture in South Korea is K-pop. K-pop is one of the most representative musical genres in Korea, it is a fairly large subculture as there are many artists and bands that are dedicated to its creation, in fact there are generations of K-pop, right now K-pop is in its fourth generation. K-pop can be recognized all over the world mainly by the band BTS but there are many others that have a fairly large influence on people around the world, so great and important is this subculture that fans of the bands create advertisements that are shown on special dates in cities and it's a way for fans to show their love and support for their idols. Many people have undervalued K-pop because they believe that since there are many idols it is easy to be, but there are many requirements necessary to be an artist in Korea, in addition to the fact that artists should have the stereotype of beauty in Korea, if they do not meet it, many aesthetic operations are carried out, it is a very large subculture, but at the same time it is complicated.
